Learn to Standup Paddle & the Fluid Art of SUP Yoga
This Float & Flow Beginners’ paddle workshop is appropriate for ALL LEVELS. We will begin on land with an introduction to standup paddle equipment and paddle stroke technique. After teaching you how to properly mount and dismount from the board we will spend a few minutes warming up our shoulders and hips, and do a few rounds of calisthenics to get your blood pumping. From there we will then offer a short guided paddle in the calm waters of Nantucket’s north shore, during which you will work your stroke technique and learn to balance on the “sweet spot”
After anchoring the boards with individual 10# mushroom anchors, we will explore a gentle yoga practice appropriate for beginner to intermediate students. The practice is approached slowly so that students can get comfortable moving around on a floating surface. This open water workshop will use breath-work and utilize poses that release tension, quiet the mind, strengthen the body and ease the spirit. Each class will draw to a close with a sweet savasana (final relaxation) in which students will be encouraged to lay down on their backs, float their hands in the water and feel the sea flow beneath them.
